This painting is part of my series inspired by journeys across Europe, specifically Belgium. In an unusual departure from my usual approach, I have merged graphic elements with a painting language close to that of Paul Cézanne.
I chose not to dissolve the city into a soft, atmospheric impression in the manner of classical Impressionism. Instead, I constructed it through clear planes and firm contours — almost as an architectural structure.
The houses are rendered as dense, interlocking volumes. The sky is kept luminous and open. Colour is applied not chaotically, but through carefully considered transitions of violet, pink, ochre and deep blue.
